2nd attempt.

I was put off the first time by the perceived airspeed, indicated by the clouds, and when the skyline came into view it was ZERO.

Hang on, I wasn't meant to take it seriously!!!

In 'real' life, without engines, the only (safest) way to land is with plenty of airspeed.

Airspeed is gained by increasing thrust from the engines, (not an option to Sturmey Archer III) or swapping altitude for speed.

That means nose down, increase airspeed, pick a point on the ground/river, check if it is moving away from you, (undershoot) or towards you (overshoot). The point that is static in your view is approximately (final glide aside) where you will end up. As the ground rushes up towards you, pull back on the controls, and swap some of the airspeed for lift, and flare out the landing.

Simple to do with a parachute/paraglider/glider/light aircraft.

A little more 'fraught' with 300 people behind you screaming like banshees.

You bandits!
I just read the bit about the left right keys - I was trying to land by mouse and mouse alone.
Not easy I tell ye!
