A thought occurred to me while walking the dog today.

You'll often hear it said that one should seek a doctors advice before starting an exercise programme.

Yet not exercising is far more likely to kill you prematurely, and no one takes doctors advice before sitting in front of the tv and drinking beer every evening.

Strange.

Depends what the outcome is,dunnit?
Personally I 'm not ready for a fitted wooden overcoat , so I'll walk the walk, take that ride before I fall like those 10 green bottles!

I suppose it is aimed at people who have spent the past thirty years sitting in an armchair in front of the TV whose only only exercise is rolling a fag or opening a packet of crisps.

If such a person went out for a 10km run, there's a risk they could keel over.

Mind goes back to a certain Jim Fixx.

An over weight, smoker, who started running and lost weight. Famous for promoting running and had a successful book.

Died of a heart attack, whilst jogging at the age of 52 in 1984. Ignored warning signs of chest pains and did not seek medical advice.
