I do not buy this story at its face value. There are so many unanswered questions here.
Some facts first. You are a male. Your "friend" is a female. Neighbor is a male but we do not know whether he has a partner or not.
We do not know whether it was a "signed for delivery".

If I am honest and truthful, this is how I will deal with it.
1. I will not confide it in a friend who will in turn broadcast this to the world on an internet chat forum. Therefore I have doubts regarding the honesty of the story. Perhaps your "friend" is trying to tell you something.
2. If it is a signed for delivery, your friend will have to return the item either to the sender no matter what the cost. If she is concerend about the cost, she just have to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and return it to the neighbor
3. If it is not signed for delivery, she can just keep it. Postie will never admit to delivering it to a wrong address and there is no proof that it was delivered to your friend.

Whit? Why would I make this up?

I don't think it's a signed for delivery but your suggestion #3 is just theft, calling into question your assertion about being "honest and truthful".

To save everyone's blushes I would return the package to the sender with "opened in error by a neighbour" written on it. They should then re-send it.

Or I might repack it, type a proper label and enclose the despatch note then post it to my neighbour from somewhere far away.

Seal it back up in the original packaging and write 'delivered to wrong address, opened in error' on it and put it back in a postbox if it will fit, or take to post office if not, you shouldn't have to pay new postage.

I think Miss Lawrence handled it the best way she could, I mean they are just butt plugs, and used to provide pleasure. It's not as if she had a gun hidden that can only harm someone?

Funny how people are willing to openly show off gun ownership, but are petrified to say, "Yes, I own a butt plug"
