This appears to be a circa 1895 Rudge-Whitworth Companion Sociable. It required two people of equal weight ratio to ride it.

This example belongs to a cycling friend of mine, who lives in Southampton. It is believed there are only five surviving.

We have two sociable bicycles, made by the now defunct Buddy Bike. I hate them, mostly because I used to be responsible for loading the bastarding things on and out of vans and trying to catch people failing to get the hang of riding it. They can be ridden by people of wildly different weights and even solo if you don't mind riding on the p!sh.
