My 2p is to pay close attention to the gearing and make sure it has a low enough bottom gear for you, to enable you to manage your local climbs even when dog tired. What that gear is depends on you. It may be as simple as changing a cassette, or it may be fine out of the box, or perhaps it may be as complicated as requiring a triple.

Apart from that, and as long as the brakes work for when you come back down, as they say above, just get pedalling.

Thanks all. Some good pointers. Despite my enthusiasm for cycling, I am not really up on the different technology terminology used so some of the terms used have here have been useful (with Google). I'm continuing the hunt with a little less ignorance.
