A good case for cremation rather than burial.

So if the powers that be say 'no' to the blazing boat burial on the Orwell and you have to go with 'nothing' does that mean that someone will just leave you out on the compost heap in the garden?

Backup plan is a giant catapult and the spin of a wheel misfortune to choose aim.

Bodies are legally "Clinical Waste" an therefore have to agree to those regulations.... so the garden compost heap may not be legal as you have to comply

Body parts may be classified as clinical waste (e.g. an amputation) but bodies are not waste. Local authorities have a duty through public health legislation to ensure that bodies are cremated or buried.

Zoroastrians used to lay their dead out to the vultures. I wonder if they still do that. Freddy Mercury was a Zoroastrian and I don't remember it being reported his body being fed to vultures. In India, Zoroastrians are known as Parsees. iirc the vulture population is crashing in India, but then there are not nearly so many Zoroastrians as there used to be.

It's a shame we don't have a "Body Farm" in the UK as I'd be happy for mine to be used for forensic research. Must get round to filling in the forms for medical research. Failing that a "green burial". Rotting inside a sealed box does not appeal.

I've had to arrange two funerals in the last 14 months (no, it's not been a good year). There is a lot of comfort in the rituals, and the process of creating an experience that has meaning for you and the mourners; that the deceased would have approved of. And fighting off the creepier parts of the undertaking business. Embalming has be defacto in Australia now, like it is in America. Even though most people don't have open casket funerals.
