After many years of being a fat slob I spent nine months losing 43 pounds in weight and then decided to return to cycling after three decade break, first by using my Nephews abandoned mtb and then last March buying Triban 5.

Due to several injuries (achilles, knee etc) caused by excessive running and the God awful rain I have hardly used the Trib but after several rides I am very pleased with my choice, £500 gets you a lot of bike, Sora group set, carbon forks and rear stays, in my rather uninformed opinon it beats some of the lower priced product from the better brands.

If your looking for a road bike in the £500 range the T5 is worth a look and the Decathalon staff at Lakeside were excellent.
