I'm a Darlington lad who left the town in 1977 for a life in Leeds.

Taylors pork pies are best eaten hot as are Appletons from Ripon. The others are fine hot or cold. I don't recall Beck's in the market though I do miss Zissler's, a pok butcher long soince closed that did the best sausage rolls ever in Bondgate.
Go in the doors under the town clock facing high row, first right then first left down the isle. Second stall from the end on the left, and the apple pies are to die for too.

I was a model for restraint today.

I didn't enter Weegmans in Otley.
I succumbed to Appletons in Ripon
I succumbed to Johnsons in Thirsk
I passed on Thompson's in Northallerton, the queue was too long and I was pressed for time.
I never got to Taylors or Becks because of time issues.

However, I shared my spoils with a friend in Hurworth. The ride qualified as a 100km DIY Audax, my second in four days. Pies do not make good ride fuel I began to bonk out just after Northallerton. A ride dependent entirely on pies might not be a good idea thankfully I'd consumed other sources of calories in the earlier stages of the ride.

Pie shop pictures to follow later.

Don't like meat pies but love apple pie with cinnamon flavoured sugar and ground nutmeg sprinkled on top. Does that count?
I've just reread this and realize my mistake. What I should have put was "ground cinnamon and sugar inside the pie with the ground nutmeg on top". Vernon I apologise my original discription sounds horrible no wonder you were ill.

P.S. I also like apple crumble with cinnamon and nutmeg in the same place
