A new tack on the 'what winter bike" thread

For several years I have had a Trek 2.1 alloy bike with mudguards. Original SKS full ones were tight and eventually replaced with Giant ones (have a tiny gap at each bridge) which look and work fine. I ordered a Giant Defy Disc 1 with Giant guards and they have called to say they cannot fit the blades even though officially they should fit. SO back to square one

I want to replace it with something similar – BUT WITH DISCS.... ie a fairly light road bike that just happens to take proper mudguards. Not Raceblades or Crud ones, and a nice slimline close fitting guard would be ideal

I am not looking for a cross bike (but might be persuaded if I can change tyres to 25mm without having a massive gap to the mudguards.

Compact chainset and decent spec (eg 105 or Tiagra). Muted colour a plus

I am not after steel and heavy duty 38mm tyres are not essential. Ideally an alloy road bike that just happens to take mudguards.

Any ideas?

Thanks. They look a little on the heavyweight side, plus I am not a huge fan of the SRAM double click mechanism but will look again

It comes in cable disc Tiagra guise also.

The Disc version at £999 does in theory but the LBS have refunded my money saying they can't get the Giant branded guards to fit properly

A bit pricey but there others in the range at £1900. Mudguard mounts are under the bridges and on the front forks on the seat stays at the back and the most important thing full guards at the back all bolted.

Still a stacked head tube but less so than most other "relaxed" bikes.

Thanks for the suggestions. One extra thing I have thought of is that I need to use the bike on a turbo, and am concerned that thru-axles will not be compatible (Turbo needs a special skewer). The London Road does look good, but can only see an Ultegra build not Tiagra which ups the price. The WHytes are in my local shop and seems to tick the boxes but too many woeful reviews here about poor quality and finishing kit mean it is a no http://road.cc/content/forum/133503-thoughts-whyte-suffolk
