most students unions have someone who specialises in this kind of thing, aimed at helping students who have fallen foul of crap landlords

personally I find taking the staircase with me when I move out has a good effect (the staircase collapsed due to being rotten so we stopped paying rent!)

He's blowing got air out his arse. He ain't going to spend £££s on a solicitor to recoup £25, and a Judge would censure him severely if he tried to bring a claim for £25 to court.

Even if the Judge had received a blow to the head, costs are not automatic and it's quite routine for private claimants and defendants to have to pay the own. Contrary to what most people thing the allocation of costs to the losing party is not an automatic right, and is decided on the basis of things such as income etc.

I'd wipe my arse on it and bin it. Then I'd write back saying you don't intend to pay as it is an unreasonable charge and therefore unenforceable under contractual law (it's not unreasonable to have to clean premises ready for the next client). Advise them that any further correspondence to them will be charged at £100 per letter against them.

That's my view and I've got a degree in law.

Sorry but it begs the question why did he lose his deposit?

Ah I see, in that case 2 options, tell them to go swivel or play the game & draw it out as long as you can then tell them to go swivel
