Oh yes, truly fresh eggs are not much good as a hardboiled egg. The egg needs to be at least a week old to be good as a hardboiled egg.

Gabbana is a Silver Sussex hen. She, along with Dolce, a Light Sussex girl were two girls I got as point-of-lay birds at the beginning of March. I now have five in my small flock: 3 ex-batts and 2 posh girls.

Edit: what's a 'point of lay' bird please?

'Point-of-lay' is the term used to describe a young hen - bigger than a chick but not quite old enough to start laying eggs, but at the stage when it could happen in the next few weeks. e.g. about 18-20 weeks old. They are literally at the point of starting to lay eggs. Sometimes referred to as POL.

Well, you know when you've had a good night out, you get back to her place for coffee, the gentle music, balmy breeze, and you make to her boudoir.........................oh, heck, I see what you mean:biggrin:

Well yes, I suppose it's even more rural & isolated up in Lincolnshire than down here in Norfolk... but, heck, Gerry, I didn't think it was quite that bad .. as to be thinking of hens in those terms...
