Thanks for the reminder - checked and I'd not backed up any of my photos since August

Can anyone recommend a good, fairly priced, reliable and preferably British-based cloud backup service?

Most cloud services are deliberately spread around the world for obvious reasons. Dropbox is very good, but obviously it's not designed or sold as a backup system (but works well as one). Unless it's for VAT claim back reasons any would do what you want. Any system that automates backups is a good think. The main reason backups fail are due to the seat>keybaord interface.

Can I suggest : Keepitsafe.com (US owned) or Dataprotect.ie (Irish based) Or my company , but we are Irish based as well.

You mean you're going to PAY them? Not just use the free space?
If it's a viable option, I like to support British businesses.

I have 16gbs of photos, 30 of music and another 6 of documents, videos etc...

My son had similar volumes on his old laptop. The hard suddenly refused to boot into windows. In spite of having his own USB portable drive and access to the household NAS nothing was backed up.

Fortunately I was able to boot machine using Linux (Ubuntu) on a CD and recover the data partitions. Suspecting a virus (he admitted visiting porn sites) I then did a full factory restore and got him up and running again.

A year later the hard drive failed properly. He'd still got nothing backed up. Got the music and all his A level notes etc but not all the pictures.

I use an external hard drive for my photos and files . They are fairly cheap and hold loads .
