He'll reduce the percentage of taxation for a limited time which looks good but due to the increased overall cost won't mean a depreciation of actual revenue, maybe even an increase. If / when prices decrease he'll have a nice ready made plan to bring the cost back up to 'base' level.

I've mentioned this before, but I did the sums regarding the price of petrol before Christmas and realised that by commuting just three days a week I would recoup the cost of the single speed I had by eye on within a year. This got the purchase past the finance dept (Mrs VC), I'm averaging 4 commutes a week and petrol has gone even higher so I'm very happy. So n+1 remains satisfied until they complete the new Leicester velodrome.

I worked out I could recoup the cost of lithium batteries in my electric car on 2 years of commuting to work fuel savings.

Only problem is that while I am still paying for the fuel I can't quite afford to finish building the electric car or buy the batteries to save the money in the first place.

I put £103 worth of diesel in my car on Saturday (Pug 406). I dont use it too much and usually only put in £50 worth but with the budgie coming up thought it a good investment to fill it up as it will be another £4 more after thursday ( probably)

That does get me around 750 miles as I drive it to save fuel. This tank should last a couple of months. I work from home now but have to go out and about but mostly it is running the kids around and family trips to the aged p's.

When you drive economically it is amazing how people seem to be doing all they can to use up the fuel they have in their tanks.

Also true - but at least that gives me an excuse to eat cake! I try to only eat goodies like that on or after walks and bike rides.

I put £50 worth in my C5 diesel earlier on. A tank full (to fill it when the distance to go indicator says 100 miles) would now cost £75.

Most of that £50 will go on visiting my mother the weekend after next.

Local use is now only costing about £5 a week, the bike does the rest.

£90 lat the weekend to fill our Volvo large brick shaped GLE Estate. Ouch.

I'm determined not to give in to temptation and drive it to work like I have been doing too often in recent months.... And to wear lighter boots when I do drive it - that turbocharger is a killer.

Mickle's post makes me think .......Wonder what the response from other drivers would be if I drove to London at 40 mph? I can get nearly 70 mpg instead of 55 that way!
