Hi to all.
This is my first post and thought it only polite to introduce myself.
I few months back my wife left me for another fella. With out going into to much detail it knocked me for six and for months on end my life just revolved around work , sleep and drinking to much trying to come to terms with what happened. One night though while talking to a complete stranger in the pub he told me about his charity bike ride of 120 miles. After a few more beers together his cycling story's really started to plant a seed in my head and decided I really need to try and turn my life around and get out of the rut I was stuck in. I my younger days I was a keen cyclist and competed in many time trails but the onset on life commitments put my cycling days on the side lines. The following week I won a 1983 Peugeot road bike off eBay and have been busy cleaning and restoring it to its former glory. I wanted a Peugeot Equipe bike purely for nostalgic reasons because it was such a special moment to me when my recently belated bought it me back in the early 80s . I always found this bike fitted me like a glove and was now worried my ageing body would now not feel the same way , but it feels just as good now as it did then. The pug is in immaculate condition and I proud to be able to own one again. My new bike has sent a new lease of life into me over the last few month's.Gone are the days of leading a life of work ,sleep , beer , slobbing out of the sofa feeling depressed about life to cycling every evening to between 10 to 35 miles a night. I can't believe how much cycle has improved my state of mind. As well as feeling more healthy I now feel more focused on life as well as feeling positive about the future. I now have a new interest and it's also cheap to pursue which is a big bonus now that money has become tight. I,m lucky to be living in a nice part of the country so cycle rides here are adorned with fantastic scenery and quiet roads. My time trailing days are long over ,but I quietly hoping to be able to build my miles up so I can complete a 70 mile trip to my fathers house on the coast. Cycling really is a great way to unload your stresses in life and I now feel like I've turned the corner in my life towards a better direction.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Well you have been through a rough patch, but Well done for finding a new hobby, and for turning your life around. Cycling is certainly good for the soul. We do have some fantastic scenery here in Wales.

Welcome to the forum and good luck. It wouldn't hurt to post some photos of your bike and the places you find yourself wandering around. We like photos...

Welcome and as a fellow member of the newly single club that I really didn't want to be part of I can totally understand how cycling has made you feel. I hadn't riden a bike in over 15 years and the first time I got on my bike and rode for 6 miles I felt great.

Life seems so much easier when on a bike keep it up and by this time next year you will be wondering why you didn't do it sooner.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I'm amazed by how friendly follow cyclists are nowadays. You get a nod and smile off virtually every cyclist going in the opposite direction. I had a slight typo error in my opening post but it was my recently belated mother who bought me a Peugeot Equipe back in 84 from Halfords. It was when Halfords were small high street shops. It cost £109 back then. I always remember standing outside the window of the shop gazing at this bike and falling in love with. It looked really modern in its day. Lug less tubing ,10 speed and 700c wheels. I never mentioned a word to my mum because she was struggling for money at the time plus I was the kind of kid who never asked for anything. Unknown to me though she spotted me one day in town gazing at this bike and bought me one as a surprise. I was overwhelmed with joy the day she took me in to the shop and told me she had got it. I did hundreds of miles on that bike over the years and enjoyed every minute on them. Fast forward 32 years I now own another one which is totally original apart from the upgraded Mavic ma2sbp wheels. It's truly immaculate and a bargain for £80. It's kept in my large kitchen and puts a big smile on my face everytime I see it ,reminding my of my good old mum. This one's for keeps whether I use it or not. Its one of the most comfortable bikes I've ever ridden. I'm no expert but I'm putting it down to the steel 103 carbolite frame. I can stay in the saddle for hours and average 15 mph with no discomfort apart from my legs aching. Anyway thank you all again for the the warm welcome. I will no doubt be asking 20 questions as my fitness progresses over the coming months :-))

That is such an amazing story and the fact you now have the same bike again all these years later is a great starting point to a life on two wheels.

I totally understand the bike in the kitchen and even more so with settelmental attachment like yours.

Oh and just ask away this forum is a wash of both usefull and useless information and no matter how stupid a question might seem someone will answer it. Just don't ask about helmets hi viz or whether cycling is a sport or a hobbie 3 things I learnt very early doors.

Big Kudos to you, welcome to the forum, hope you keep on loving the Pug, one of my big riding regrets is moving one on when something new and shiny, and nowhere near as comfy or fun to ride, caught my eye.
