A special trike for Ellie

Just before Christmas we (Cyclemagic) delivered a specially adapted handcycle we'd built to a little girl from Essex who had lost her limbs to meningitis.

You can see her picture in the Sun here

Must admit we're a bit disappointed that we didn't get a mention as promised.

They've even removed our stickers for the film.

I think that's terrible tbh.

Well done all involved, lovely story.

Wasn't it Jay Leno who said something along the lines "Here in America we like to tell everyone of the anomynous giving we do". Some one on here has it as their signature.

Touching story and so sad for the little girl and her family. Surely the fact you helped this little girl with her obvious difficulties getting around is reward enough for you, that it was not done to merely take advatnage of an opportunity to raise your profile by everyone seeing your name on the trike being published in the national press ?

The removal of your name may be irritating but it's not 'terrible'.

All commercial media take money for product placements.

In order to keep faith with their paying customers they therefore obscure all product identification that isn't paid for - even if there's no paid for competing product.

If you wanted your name to appear I'm sure a call to the sales department would have got your name reinstated, in return for a cheque with big numbers on it.

Commercial media exist solely to make profits for their shareholders. If they fail in that they disappear. The sale price of a newspaper is a small part of the equation. Advertising, of which product placement is a part, is much more important to them.

Well done for helping make that girl's life better.

Cyclemagic is a totally self financing not for profit organisation and that machine was built by volunteers. It would have been nice to have had a mention so that maybe we could have benefited and other people searching for an adapted machies could at least of have an initial contact - even if ultimately we don't do the work.

Oh, and we weren't told it was being paid for the Sun and only barely covered our costs.
