This morning I was on my bike and there was a strange and disturbing noise and couldn't work out what it was and it was really bugging/worrying me.

I managed to get into work and I checked it over and couldn't find anything wrong.

The way back was horrendous, much, much louder and I kept having to get off my bike, as I was genuinly scared the pedal wes coming off. The last time I got off the bike, I sat on the pavement.

Then I heard the jangly noise.

Of the keys in my pocket, that I was hitting with my knee.....

I had a similar problem once. With every pedal stroke, had a clicking noise. Got off and checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong. Got back on the bike and it started again.

It took me a few days, then I realised that the end of the gear cable from the rear mech was sticking out more than it normally did and with every rotation, the heal of my shoe caught it, making the clicking sound!!!

I've done that with the gear cable from the front mech. It's amazing how much those little noises can preoccupy you when you're riding. And the doh moment when you click.

I keep getting a stange whining noise somewhere behind me. Turns out it's my Brummie mat who hates hills.

I once noticed a click noise on every pedal rotation. but if I got off and rotated the pedal by hand it stopped. I just could not find it. But one evening I heard it again but this time I was in the house walking upstairs. I then had to go to the doctor to ask about what was wrong with my knee.

Many years ago I had a similar rattle to some mentioned. A definite tapping noise. Eventually realised the plastic end to the waist band string that went through my anorak was hitting the top tube as I pedalled. One that really got me going though was hearing a bell ringing all the way to work. We lived upstairs in a flat at the time and as I went downstairs in my best 1970's bobble hat (in the 1970's!) and carrying my bike my wife sneakily clipped a sea fishing bite indicator bell onto the bobble on my hat without me noticing. That flipping bell haunted me all the way to work.

Reminds me of a time a mate slipped an alarm clock in my bag. I thought I could hear ringing whilst waiting for the bus but convinced myself I was hearing things. It wasn't until the bus turned up 20 minutes later and i got into a quieter environment that I realized I really could hear ringing and that it was coming from my bag but for 20 minutes it really messed with my mind. I kept looking at people at the bus stop to see if they were looking around for the source of the ringing but no one was and I began shaking my head and covering my ears and wondering if I was going to have to live with my head ringing for the rest of my life.

I was riding up a hill on my way home from work today, and heard a strange whining noise from the cyclist ahead of me, who was riding a bike that just didn't look that fast. Then I realised the damn thing had an electric motor! Cheat. (or perhaps I'm just annoyed with my Friday legs for not pushing hard enough so I could overtake him anyway)
