A technical confession

I confess that on Saturday I did attempt to insert a cartridge bb into the wrong side of the bb
I confess that in part I did succeed
I confess that in succeeding I did swear at it and question it's birth
I confess that I spent far too long inserting it before realizing my mistake
I confess I didst then un-insert it, survey the thread, brush out the swarf and smear old grease in there
I confess I did then take it to my LBS and told him I'd bought a dodgy 2nd hand frame on ebay (partly true)
I confess I have not told anyone real, only you lot
I confess I am a complete buffoon only surpassed by 3bm and macb

In penance I shall not touch a bb again but take it someone who is not a complete buffoon
In penance I shall proffer no advice on bb's

Amen

Funny I don't feel any better for confessing

This post should be merged with @Globalti s thread about everybody being capable of, and positively encouraged to, maintain their own bikes. With a bit of luck the two threads will cancel each other out and the status quo will be restored

It's a bit like that tv advert campaign from a couple of years ago where for every smart action, someone, somewhere, does something dumb.....

That's almost as stupid as a "friend" who fitted the cottered bottom bracket axle of his Raleigh Trent in upside down so the longer side was on the non-driveside and then spent the next three days wondering why the chainwheel was rubbing the chainstay...

Reminds me of a tale of woe from on here...
Someone was fitting a bb and wrecked the splines on the lhs cup.
I had a spare and posted it off to the muppet in question.
He wrecked that one too...
I think @User wouldn't like me to say who it was. So I shan't.

Crax, have you been sniffing the old bike oil? That multitude of gaffs did make me properly laugh out loud!

How much does it cost to Oldham?
I've banned myself from offering any advice but………… a quick check of the Park Tools website won't hurt.

Nooo this was a while ago.

Ordered an italian BB from fleabay for my new old Fondriest, 'cept i found out halfway to Burnley that the driveside cup was Italian and the offside, fixed cup......was English. Arse.

Cue 25 miles of frequent stopping to daddy the driveside round because counterrotation was unscrewing it.
