A tricky situation, what would you do?

Just pretend you've not heard the question and carry on with the conversation

if it's the first thing they say, just act as though you haven't heard (or even seen them) look behind them and greet someone stood there as though the question never happened.

Well, have just returned home from this wonderful celebration, mildly disappointed, I combined it with a bike ride, got in 40 odd miles before I arrived at the bbq. Anyhow I arrived a bit early, and once I had cooled down and stopped dripping sweat like a leaking shower I cracked open a beer....or 3, READY FOR THE FUN TO START

What do I hear half an hour later? Mrs effwit isn`t feeling too good so they aren`t coming!!

I did relax and enjoy the evening - so did my mum, she was legless when I left, but I really wanted to try out a few of the lines you guys had suggested here. Still, they`ll keep...........................
