What type of puzzle do you like? You might like this one, or you might not. No googling, or goggling please.

Franklin has a girlfriend called Georgina and they live in Gloucester.

Which famous waterfall has he visited?
Niagara
Who is his favourite artist?
Matisse
What nationality is Franklin?
Algerian
Which is his favourite animal?
Elephant
What sort of pet does he have?
Pussy cat Yes really;)
And what is it called?
Felix

Some forummers might get this very quickly, if so please pm me the answer, or devise a suitably devious clue. Cos' some forummers might enjoy the challenge.

If I had put in any more clues???

Face it, this type of puzzle just isn't for all. You need a special kind of aerial to pick up the clues too. And, no, it wasn't googled.

(I remember solving this one at school. There was a teacher shortage due to a 'flu outbreak so were given this problem to solve to keep us busy. I won the 6d prize. Yes, it was a long time ago...)

CROSS + ROADS = DANGER

Each instance of a given letter stands for the same single digit, no more than one letter represents the same digit.

Yes, well umm

A giant clue, was there not, so the answer is:

96233 plus 62513 equals 158746

Hmmm, perhaps I shouldn't have given you the clue straight off !

I solved the problem over 40 years ago but if you'd asked me for the solution I wouldn't have been able to give it to you without solving it again from first priciples. Having said that, I remember the answer now that you've shown it to me - funny thing the human memory.

I think I would still have got there without the clue.

c cannot be 0
r must be an even number
d must be 1
s cannot be 0 or 5
a cannot be 0

s plus r must be more than 11

once you notice the giant clue,
you realise the value of S
that's my two pence worth anyway, please ;):wacko:

I get the ones that can't be zero, but I still can't see a giant clue!

Should I really be doing a PhD involving stats? (well, I would be, if I wasn't sitting here online...)
