just back from a family holiday in weymouth had a great time with the family , did some great things and saw some great sights .

dragged my 12 yr old daughter to Durdle door and man of war cove both fantastic and then a quick look at Lulworth cove all fantastic places .
took in Abootsbury tropical gardens with its awesome jurasic coast viewpoint great gardens and just starting to get ready to burst in to flower .
climbed up portland lighthouse all 150 + steps another great view from the light area .
the drive up and to portland offers great views on the way too .
a wonder around all 3 levels of Weymouths Nothe fort which was fantastic and well worth a visit .
weymouth sandworld was amazing
along with all the above we took in the local shops including old harbour area surrounding bits and pieces .

never rode a bike all the time just loads of walking

I'm so jealous, Weymouth will always be a special place for me...spent a good few summer holidays caravanning there.
Used to drop my circa 13 year old son at the harbour, he's fish there all day, pick him up in the evening and barbeque fresh mackerel he'd caught. At 28 now, he smiles everytime the place is mentioned, he had some brilliant times there.

So much to do, so many places to go...Monkeyworld, that lost village from WW2 over the army ranges...the bay there is enchanting, same with Lulworth although that's a bit commercialised now...Portland..love the scenery and the character, Verne Prison, Portland Harbour, Chesil Beach, Dorchester...it just goes on and on.

I'm going to Turkey and looking forward to it...but there's nowhere in this country i'd rather go than Weymouth.

Edited to say...
We were looking forward to our holiday there one year, loaded up the car, got the kids in and off we went....in the blackest skies and heaviest rainfall i'd seen in a long time. It poured it down, 50, 75, 100 miles, it was relentless. We progressed with nervous looks between us, oh Jesus, is this what we're getting for our holiday ?
10 miles from Weymouth, you just began to see a bright line of sky on the horizon. As we got closer, the bright sky got closer....and we drove into Weymouth basking in bright sunshine :wahhey:
I said to the wife and kids...'there you go, the sun always shines on Weymouth'

I was down there with the army a couple of years ago (Maggot, I was Infantry Junior Leaders at Shornecliffe in 1984). Had a great time, the weather was great and the work was good. Even had a good time when we where doing a Combat Fitness Test (CFT) in Bovington woods and the PTi got us well and truely lost. We did the Lawrence of Araiba trail, just over six miles starting from the Tank Museum at Bovington and then onto his house at Clouds Hill and then onto his final resting place at Moreton.

i went there many moons ago with my first family. We had a picnic on the beach. We put down the blanket turned round to get the hamper. The blanket moved.thousands of bugs, creepy crawley things just under the sand.We scarpered.

I spent two and a half years working as a guard based at Weymouth depot. It's a middling place, neither good nor bad.

Weymouth is fantastic. I loved it and all the neighbouring attractions. Portesham station building, now a private residence, was visited with a view to modelling it for an O gauge layout. I've yet to make a start on it thirteen years on.... Bovington tank museum was great. I got to travel in an armoured personnel carrier and role play rapid deployment of soldiers. I still have a couple of posters bought from an arty shop near Abbotbury.

Nothing but fond memories of the place. In fact I wouldn't mind going back.

weymouth has mixed memories for me.

we went on holiday there 2 weeks after we lost the baby that was our middle child 11 Years ago. and had a brilliant week . went on a glass bottomed boat trip on the fleet and got soaked as it properly tipped down with rain and thoroughly enjoyed it . spent an enjoyable 2 hours with my 3 yr old on the big slide at lodmoor. did the steam train to Swanage. Sharkies on the harbour was great too.

still love going diving from Weymouth and have had a great time stopping in Portland . and have had some great food at the pulpit inn on bill of portland

On Portland, did you visit Tout Quarry? http://learningstone.org/

It's the most absorbing place to get lost in, scrambling about through the remains of the old quarry discovering artworks, graffiti, and sculptures by anonymous hands and famous names alike and the views from the top are wonderful. Best to go off-season when you practically have the place to yourself - I spent a whole day meandering about there a couple of years ago and I'd still go back.
Magic!

I was a crew on a yacht that sailed into Weymouth when I was a teenager. After supper, I wandered about by the harbour. There was an alarmingly pretty girl standing doing nothing much in a dark doorway.
