... poor blighter is riddled with it, it seems, and can no longer ride his bike.

The shock of the diagnosis caused him to propose marriage to his partner of 20+ years.

If you received a terminal diagnosis what one big change would you voluntarily make?

I would marry my girlfriend of`15 years. But it is nothing to do with the shock. It makes it much easier in regards of probate.

My friend has been told that he has a year to live. Within the week he had his wife and boys in Florida. He took his wife for a romantic autumn break to Paris. He took the boys to watch England at Wembley. He still feels fit and well.

It has made me realise I have to get up and start doing things.

A difficult choice

Part of me would say blow the savings, and go to all the places that I still haven't been whilst I am still fit enough

The other says that blowing the savings like that is selfish and could be better used to ensure security for those left behind

welsh dragon

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
If I had only 12 months left, I'd spend every penny I have travelling to all the places I've always wanted to see but never did. I'd die a happy woman...

My take; savings, such as they are, are for this life, life insurance payout (I'm worth waaay more dead than alive) is for those I leave behind.

I think the other trouble is that with a terminal illness you tend to feel cr@p for long periods of time not helped by the side effects of chemo and radiotherapy (if you've had that). So while enjoying yourself might seem like a good idea, it's not always possible.

If it were me, I'd draw out all my money and sit at home counting it while occasionally posting something on CC that would irritate Andy in Sig.

Stop being a party pooper . in my perfect world, I would be healthy until I returned to the UK a week before I die.
