My laptop suddenly gave up the ghost last week so I took it to be repaired as it is on warranty, etc.

Anyway, I have now lost everything on it, so I'll need to start trying to retrieve things now.

GAH!

I do have reasonably up to date backups of things, yes, its just that it'll all be a bit of a faff, that's all.

It was a Boot Up Fault apparently, although they did originally mention the Motherboard.

As for my post count? Well, I still have my (10 year old) Mac which I am using this very second to type this and 'The family' i-Pad.

Look at the bright side: you will be getting more sleep for a few days. Also, a removable back up hard disk is a good investment ;)

Edit: you will not be sleeping after all, you still got access to cchat!

Yes we have various ones, so the majority of my pictures should be ok at least!

If your hard drive didn't fail, you should be able to access all. I haven't checked, but you must be able to get a lead to connect the old drive via USB. I did that with my desktop when the MB failed and connected the hard drive to my laptop.

Oh dear I have a confession to make.....I downloaded Summer Holiday from iTunes......any last vestiges of credibility has just been blown away

Rather than taking backups which can be a pain as you say, I prefer to clone the disc instead. Then you can either pop in the cloned disc to replace the broken one (having taken another clone first!) or clone it back onto the new hard drive and you are back up and running again. For PCs Acronis True Image works very well IME.

I'll have to look into that, thanks.

To be fair though, I never used the laptop for anything major, more just for pictures, music, the interweb and so on, but, still, there was enough junk on it to be of importance

Also Red Light, I'll remember that for future too, thanks.

Oh yes, and I forgot John Denver too.

As for Summer Holiday?? Hmmmmm, I don't know whether to laugh or Cyberslap you! ^_^
