Evening all...

Being a techological semi-cretin, I could really do with some know-how about word 2010 from someone...

We've got a laptop with an i5 drive, which is about 4 years old. We've had Word 2010 installed from new with no real dramas until the other day.

Right when we really, really need it, naturally. Anyway, when I click on the icon to start it up, it does what it normally does. You get the little start up box as usual, and ping, the blank document opens on the screen for you to start working as per normal. Except it doesn't stay there. It literally disappears after around 1 to 3 seconds. It doesn't even appear in the bottom bar, it's like you never opened it. It does all this without any keys being touched.

We've tried allsorts, including 'repairing' it through the control panel thing, to no avail.

Could anyone shed any light?

Thanks...

Alt+tab?

That or use Libre office, I have office 2010 on my work pc and it seems to be designed to wind me up, it turns me into a swearing monster until I close it down again. Breathe and relax :banghead:

Possibly it's a corrupted default template.

Search the hard drive for a file called Normal.dot
Rename it to Normal1.dot (so you can easily reverse it if it doesn't work)
Try re-opening Word.

Thanks chaps for the quick replies.

I can't find Normal.dot, but I'll have another go tomorrow, ditto The Mikey's advice. Gorra gerrup for work, so I'll have to leave the bugger for now.

Appreciated!

Try *.dot in search, including hidden and system files in the search.

I have stopped using MS office and have downloaded OpenOffice. It is very good and I haven't had any problems so far. And it is free!!!
