So bassically i have to cycle to work experience tommorow. The closest bike parking stands are like 15 mins away from where i do my work. So i have two options of where too lock it up?
1. A sign behind a bus stop (So it wouldn't be in the way of people getting on/off bus)- The thing is there's no CCTV and the buses only come every 30 mins) So it's still quiet sometimes.
2. A sign opposite some random house- Still no CCTV?

So where should i lock it up (i only have one lock i lock my bike through rear wheel frame and stand/object)

I know it's best to lock it up in a public place but what if there's no public place or would you say it's better to lock it up by the parking stands and then walk 15 mins or what do you guys do if your in an area with not much CCTV and no parking stands?

It may be too late, but I’d suggest asking the employer what they suggest. What type of environment is it? I think most places would help you to safely store your bike whether it’s a shop, office, factory/warehouse etc

I don't even think about CCTV. A friend had her bike stolen on a busy high street by a bench in view of the CCTV. The bike officer at the local police station just shrugged, and wrote a theft report.

I'd park opposite the house. Just check the pole is embedded in concrete. Sometimes they only have a bolt holding them in place, so your bike could be stolen by lifting the sign.

I would only ever lock it up at work. Most employers nowadays have some sorts of cycling facility for you to store your bike at work. If they haven't, it's a great time for them to start.

Thanks- yeah i know what you mean.

Definitely take it with you to the stables, I’d be surprised if they didn’t have an unused area large enough to store ten bikes!

Not worth the risk leaving it outside on the street, in my opinion. Even stored in an empty stable covered with a sheet would be safer than locked to a lamp post in my opinion.

And good luck with the work experience :-)
