Why can't your mate travel out with you in the vehicle? He may not be able to ride but he can play the role of soigneur with drinks, massages, hangover cures etc.

Well after some soul searching we have decided that we ain't going as if we can't all travel (Doc advised not to) then we aren't going. It is a shame but we all feel this was a trip that all three of us wanted to do together and ride together and it wouldn't seem right with just two. Off to see my mate after work and draw something rude on his full leg plaster and take him beer, DVDs and a crappy get well soon card.

Thanks for the input people and happy riding.

I know that if I was one of a group and illness or accident prevented me from going on the trip the last thing I'd want is for the other members of the group to NOT go without me.

If trip is all pre-arranged and time off work is secured why wouldn't you want to go?

Your decision entirely but it's one that I personally would regret making.

That's very nice of you, but if it was me I would want you to go without you, or even see if I could get out there to meet you for part of the trip (not on a bike).

What caused the spill? And well done that he carried on but hope he didn't add to the damage by doing so.

Three women with buggies and kids across the path. My mate slowed to about 5mph expecting them to move over but they didn't so he put the breaks on and the bike went from under him where there was some standing water from the tunnel. Leg went one way the bike the other and he thought initially that it was soft tissue and ligaments but after getting home and doing ice, compression etc it was getting worse so he went off to A&E. I am glad he did as the impact caused a tibia plateau fracture and he is now full leg plaster. He is having Ct scans today or tomorrow to also asses the soft tissue and any ACL damage etc.... All at 5mph

We are happy with the decision not to go. If he could travel happily then we would have gone but its a non starter in a full plaster in a van with two others and four bikes etc.

Jeeze... if he fell off when faced with three women with buggies, what could have happened on holiday in France?

Seriously though, if I was in his position I would rather sit at home and know the other two of you were enjoying yourselves than have the extra misery of knowing you were NOT enjoying yourselves thanks to me.

Can you get the cost of the trip back on travel insurance BigAl? At least then you're not losing the money if you can , so that you can do the trip altogether as soon as you ar all fit again.

Presumably in one of the puddles that forms in the tunnel from the drips (it's a rare occasion to make it from one entrance to the exit without getting dripped on). Normally you can go around the puddles but maybe the buggies meant he ended up going through one.

The van hire is being refunded, the ferry have given us a credit note for 12 months and the accommodation was free as staying with the injured parties parents in the Loire so we aren't too out of pocket. We lose our euros for the sportive but think that was 27 each.

One of you rotten scoundrels could have told him a bit of mushroom from the pizza was blacking out his tooth before the picture, hasn't he suffered enough!

Still if theres any word of a remake of Benny Hill sketches with a need for extras I suppose he could use it as an audition application photo.
