Hi

So my brother and me are going to do a C2C in France from Bordeaux to Montpellier. I've have booked accommodation in Bordeaux when we arrived but we don't know how hard or easy we are going to go. So I don't know if i should completely book the whole journey's accommodation or keep it flexible and wing it, with a few places in mind along the way.

Hoping to get some advice.

Cheers

Depends when you are going ....

... lots of hotels and B&Bs (Chambres d'Hote) ... and almost very town, even small ones, have a Tourist Office that will have accommodation lists (or make bookings for you) - or look at Logis de France website or the Accor hotel chain that has the FI, Etap, IBIS etc brands.

going in early May

cheers for the advice.

... in that case I reckon you'd be OK to wing it .. but bear in mind some small hotels close one night per week during the low/off season!

Are you planning on following the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi or have you got a road route in mind? Amongst the cheap formula hotels (F1, B&B, Mister bed etc) The Premiere Classe chain is best for bikes because each room opens on to a covered walkway outside so it is easy to take bikes inside. I covered all of your route in reverse. http://briansbigbikeride.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/raissac-to-carcassonne.html
Early May is very early season even in the south of France. You certainly don't need to book just see where you get to. Good luck and enjoy.

IMO, Ok to wing it, but check in advance with the hotels etc, as they can just shut down for a week or so out of season, or just for a day here and there. It is easy to find small Band Bs and also those owned by Brits

You will also find Formule 1 hotels all over France. They are cheap, clean and warm with lots of hot water. If you have internet access on your travels use AirBnB.com. We have used it all over europe and it has been great. There is also Warmshowers and HostelWorld.

Never booked on a tour through France, and never come badly unstuck.

Used AirBnB last year. Year before had to wing it. Its all on my blog.
I actually got some good deals on Lowcost holidays. Good for big towns/cities. €30 a night for good room in a chain hotel.
