Fourteen years ago, one of my closest friends was told by her doctors that, in order to prolong her life for maybe another 6-12 months, they'd have to remove her leg. And after that they'd probably have to remove the other one to extend her stay a little while longer... all her life she'd been victim to Diabetes and battled through it like a proper trooper. But towards the end, she just wanted to depart this world intact, with what little health she had left. Being on dialysis, she had the right to refuse the treatment and with the help of lots and lots of morphine, she spent her last week surrounded by those who loved her. She's the bravest person i know by a long chalk. So many people in a similar condition aren't in a position to make the choice.
