They must get a right shock when people channel surf during the tv ads.
Or hit mute, start a 4 minute timer and browse cycle chat on their mobile

That is the politicians' major trick.

I'm not sure if politicians are hugely clever to pull off such a trick or the public at large cannot see what is going on. I suspect a bit of both. As long as the politicians can convince 80% of the population, their job is done.

Agrees with @User.

First of all a ban could never be enforced. Secondly it's possible to put the ad carrier server names into the hosts file in windows and redirect them to nothing.
I did that for years before discovering adblockb plus.

We can't enforce a speed limit or mobile phone use. How can I be stopped from blocking ads?

I would recommend this for general web surfing. I have it installed at home for general use. At work, it's not on the laptop so if I visit, say, the Bristol post website which is an awful poorly designed and heavy ad-laden load of tosh, my laptop freezes.

Inertia

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
On sites I like and use a lot I usually turn the blocker off, some sites however are a complete mess with adverts down the side and even in the middle of the article that make them hard to read.

I also use noscript as I dont like the fact that data is being sent to third parties who I have no knowledge of, I usually just enable scripts on the site I know.
