We are going to Majorca in June, and partner is taking his own bike for the first time, rather than hiring. I have contacted our travel insurance (Ageas - free with bank account) who say they only cover individual items for up to £300, and they do not have an option to increase cover.

House insurance does not cover away from home.

Is it better to take out additional travel insurance or to up the home insurance policy?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you want to insure against theft, or damage?

[If] it's the former then my advise would be not to bother, but if you've previously had a bike stolen and want to avoid a repeat then it’s understandable

[else] try not to let paranoia feel you must have insurance. I’ve never bothered with it on any tours, maybe I’ve just been blessed with the lucky wand.

Theft I suppose, or in case Monarch decide to be less than gentle getting it on and off the plane.

Bella,

I took my bike to Mallorca last October and I have just been again. The chances of getting a bike stolen is slim in my opinion. I personally would not bother taking extra insurance out. My bike is a brand new Koga World Traveller and was not cheap.

You tend not to be far away from your bike at any time and so I would try and make it as secure as possible when you do leave it.

I can help with that. I will send you a PM.
