Hello, l have been a cyclist for a number of years, which l love. But unfortunately have never done any diy maintenance myself, and would like to fit a quick release hub to my Claud Butler Windermere has l am in the process of getting a turbo trainer has l am unable to go out has normal due to my illness ( P.T.S.D and severe anxiety ) ex army over 16 years.
What help and guidance l seek is what size hollow hub and spindle would l require, and what size ball bearings would l require has l would like to replace them whilst doing the job. I hope all l have wrote makes sense, Thankyou in advance for any help.
Would also be nice to be able to get a spec & diagram for the back wheel and hub online, or am l asking too much
Regards Befnard

You are going to need something like this
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hub-spares/d2o-rear-hollow-10-mm-axle-134-mm/

Plus the QR skewers and ball bearings + any tools needed to remove the cassette/freewheel and cone spanners.
Cost is going to be approaching the cost of a new rear wheel.

Would be best if you contacted a shop like SJS Cycles, tell them exactly what you have now and they will advise.

However, I can't see the connection with using a turbo trainer. I'm sure it would work with nutted wheel axles.
If you let people on here know what turbo you have in mind, I'm sure they would advise on the need for QRs or if it would work with nutted axles.

Good luck

Honestly much better to get a cheap wheel with a freewheel hub, 6speed block and and QR. Then you can fit a training (turbo) tyre to that and it can stay with the turbo. Especially if you "have never done any diy maintenance." Frankly, replacing the axle, bearings etc in a rear hub is not the 'first' diy job to take on. Maybe this:

My track bike with nutted axles is sitting in my Lifeline turbo. No need for qr.
And I just put on an old tyre, or a very cheap tyre, no real need for a special turbo tyre, which are relatively expensive. Make sure you've got it inflated to a high pressure to reduce wear.
As others have said, changing nutted to qr is not the easiest of jobs, especially for a beginner.
