Facebook is a success because of how 'real' it is (it's so valuable because the information harvested has allowed targetted marketing on a totally new level).

I'm a little concerned about there "targetted" ads - I used to get ads for all kinds of stuff. After registering that I was married, I've had practically nothing but "Met local singles"-type ads:ohmy:.

I too fail to see the major draw of Facebook - true I managed to catch up with a few friends from uni that I'd lost touch with. But they're the once I lost touch with because we no longer have much in common. Once past the initial few how are you, what are you up to type questions, we are again no longer in touch.

There may be something in that!

Its true though I did the same and accepted requets from people I had lost touch with. some i still am in contact with but the others i just deleted.

I dont like to discriminate for any reason but it seems to be an age thing. There IS a 'facebook generation' and like it or not is is changing the world! ;):biggrin:

I'd agree age may be a factor, but I'm the same age as you!!

;):ohmy: Well worryingly i think we are a bit 'old' to be included in the facebook generation.... its only because I am 'supposed' to be some sort of Web & Multimedia guru that I have to take such and interest and get into these things. Most of my day to day friends dont use it, although they do hijack their wives profile every now and again to catchup organise something or generally send abuse.

So what do I do then?

Did you even read my post
You first need to sort out if its someone taking the piss or if its an actual person.
So get a close friend to add this person, or start up a new account and add the person, or even add the person yourself. Look on the information thats on there. If it matches yours then you know it could be abit dodgy.
Have an up to date picture of yourself on your FB picture, so people will know who you are if they search for you.
Do Bonj's idea of doing 100 accounts in your name thats you, then the chance of the so called imposter being added is less.

If he posts an up to date picture of himself, guess what the imposter will do....

Well he cant steal this picture can he? Because if he does that, then hackbike will have a very good reason to go to facebook people, and have them do something.

If you're right, then he should do it then.

Well dont you think so?
I mean, if you put up an up to date picture up, then someone on another count also puts a picture up, wouldnt it look abit dodgy?
Or is it just me thinking that?

No your right Joe, if the imposter (if he is one) copies and pastes his profile pic then facebook will be able to check out the account and if fraudulent the will block it.

Good luck hackbike, I would just add him and see what happens.

Sorry I missed a lot of this thread due to work then I forgot about it.

There is no badge but I have sussed which messageboard it has come from. All my internet pics are now removed or cannot be linked with me.'His' contacts are from the messageboard I frequent (not this one) and as it's an unusual name I very much doub't there is anyone in England who has the same name,in fact I haven't found anyone on the planet now who has my name.

I have warned some of his 'friends' and some have removed from it's friendship.

One told me a few days ago the imposter wanted to add him but he was a bit to sharp so he didn't,then he found out the info from me.

I still haven't got a clue why someone would want to do this.

No your right Joe, if the imposter (if he is one)

As I say he posts on the same mb as me although I don't have a clue who it is.He is using my name to make friends but no pic has been used just a club badge im linked with. Also most of his 'friends' are from the same board.

He must be really sad if he needs my name to make friends.

Im have though of registering on fraudbook just to see if I can find out what this is all about.

I don't fancy coming home and finding someone has boiled the bunny.

Something you said there 'add the person',does this mean you don't need permisiion to add a person on facebook?

No you can add them but they have to approve it.... i am suprised it wasnt just someone taking the piss, this just means they are a little on he sad side.

I would report it to facebook either way they may do something as it stands.
