Advice on first decent bike!

Hi all

I have just discovered I have access to the cycle to work scheme so I can actually get a decent bike and effectively pay monthly for it rather than shelling out 7-800 quid up front.

I am a little restricted on dealers tho.

I have found this one which looks nice, I want to do road cycling but also some cycle paths which are not tarmac so thinking a hybrid is best:-

If you want to use it mainly on the road you might be better off with narrower slicker tyres than the knobbleys which you might find a bit slow. You don't need suspension forks either, they just add weight with little extra comfort, but this will come from wider fatter tyres, bearing in mind there is a trade off when it comes to tyres, so it's over to you! Anything 28c or fatter will be fine for tracks and gravel.

Bear in mind you are going to need pump, helmet, lock, clothing and maybe shoes. Good luck.

Almost... I've got the straight forked Quick 3... It's a great ride - quick and plush, and can take anything from 23mm road tyres to 40mm off-road tyres.

Can't use halfords which is annoying as I fancied a boardman, the only place locally that's decent is that Noah's Ark place that I linked too.

Do you see any alternatives on there that would be better suited to canal paths and roads? I can go up to a grand but like @Cycleops pointed out I will need a few extra bits too so maybe 7-800 is where I'm shooting?

If mainly road, even if some paths which are presumably not just tracks through a wood, there's no need for suspension. A cx bike definitely worth a look, can make it more road friendly with slicker tyres if needed in the future
