After 3 years, it's finally all over

Three years ago I had this mad idea to give up my job and do my nurse training.

I can honestly say that apart from one placement in minor injuries which I did not enjoy, I loved the practical side, had great placements and great mentors.

Today was results day and I am very happy with the A and B+ however, the only thing I enjoyed about university is meeting the other people on my course. I hate academic studies, detest writing essays and exams and found the whole experience thoroughly miserable, thank god its all over.

If I ever have any stupid ideas of studying again, I hope one of my friends will kick me really hard and remind me what an absolutely wretched experience it was.

Wifey works in health service and does find it much more academic now than when she trained so well done for sticking with it and indeed for going for it in the first place.

I only did my training so I could go into District Nursing, my only experience prior to training was working in the community and had never worked on a ward until three years ago. I will get some experience on a ward first before applying to the community though.

Some jobs, I suppose most jobs really, are just jobs. You go there to get money, that's all. You have in front of you a career, something where you have worked hard to get where you are and have a future of what you want to make it. If you have a bad day remember how hard you have worked to get where you are today.

Well done! I qualified in 1995, one of the proudest day of my life.

I've just moved away from critical care nursing into a specialist nurse post. Can't say I'm sorry to see the end of gruelling 12 hour shifts, quick night/day turnarounds and working 50% weekends.
