One of the other problems with compressed air drive is the rapid loss of performance as the air is used up. At 4000+psi it might run quite well but at 3000psi it won't be as good and at 2000psi it might be poor and any less and it might just exhaust gas through the engine without doing anything useful.

It takes a lot of energy to get a tank full of compressed air, much more then you can get back out of it.

The prototypes I've seen from other makers seem to have a very short range but made nice steam engine chuffing noises.

This in itself seems like a very good reason to have them. Imagine lots of cars chuffing about, but not for very far....^_^
