I saw a telly programme once where the postman was flying his aeroplane for two hours and was still over the same farm.
well, we wouldn't call it a farm, but a "station'. Probably a sheep station.

The one owned by the Kidman (yes, she's one of them) family is the size of Belgium. But with the land only supporting one sheep per square kilometre, you need a lot of land to be profitable. No one is plowing, sowing or reaping on those properties. Shearing, and dipping and droving.

During the English foot and mouth outbreak in 2001, I heard a farmer on the radio saying "I've got 80 sheep", my reaction was "how adorable. what are their names?"

On your non-stop flight!
Why are you saying "non stop" like that? He's changing airlines, so there is a need to stop. It was non-stop to Abu Dhabi.

It's only a few years since all flights from Australia to the middle east stopped in Asia along the way and many of them still do, so it's not unreasonable to boast "non-stop" to Abu Dhabi. I think the A380 was the first plane to do that distance non-stop on a scheduled flight. Interesting fact: There were flights from Dubai to Melbourne non-stop for some time before Melbourne to Dubai non-stop, because they had to upgrade a runway at Tullamarine to cope with the weight of the fuel. Several commercial planes are capable of doing Europe to Australia non stop, but the weight of the fuel for the early part of the flight would cause them to burn enough extra fuel that it wasn't economical.

In Roma now, and still no sleep.

While going thru Fiumcino airport passport control, I wished I was an EU citizen (or EEA or CH, whatever those are). The EU queue was short and the other a few 100m long. Regretting Brexit yet?

They were just different flights connecting to the same aircraft, but you knew that, I'm sure.

You there yet?

Yep, just checked in at The Holiday Inn Express, near Toulouse-Blagnac Airport. I've been 40 hours without sleep now. I need to learn how to sleep on planes.
It's possibly not a learnable skill. After 10 years experimenting, I now just nap. If ever my eyes start to close, I go with it. Usually it's only 10 or 20 minutes at a time, but they make the difference between an long boring journey, and a prolong taste of Sartrian hell.

OK, there is one expensive trick that works for me: business class. Once got bumped transatlantic, and feel asleep before dessert, and woke up as we approached LHR, and that was a 10 hour+ flight.

With me it's always nap time at 4pm and party time at 4am. But that's to the UK in winter mostly, so 12 hours difference.

You are now no longer sleep deprived just jetlagged, so try to stay away as long as you can. Get out in sun; hitting your skin and your retinas; stay away from screens and bright white light as much as you can after dark for the next few nights. Your body will work it out. A mid afternoon nap can set you back on Australian time ,so try to avoid those.

(I've just booked a flight in the other direction next week, we'll see how I get on  )
