At Geneva airport and boarding of EY052 to Abu Dhabi is in 65 mins. It is 6.5hrs, then 13.5 to Melbourne (I paid for an exit row seat for the latter flight).

BTW, the French and Swiss seem to have only a hazy idea of what a cappuccino is.

You should have just said that following your holiday, cut short due to injury, seating may be a problem. They'd have given you the same seat free of charge.

I'm at Abu Dhabi airport having breakfast. The queue for the bag inspections was ridiculously long! I board again in just under 2.5 hrs.

I don't think they would. When exit row seating was priced the same as the rest of the plane, you could blag you way into them with a sob story. Now they charge for them, if you need it, they are going to make you pay.

I just looked at my return fare to Australia. The airline is only getting £200 (the rest is taxes and charges). To upgrade to exit row would cost me around £275. They are not going to walk away from that money.

Back home in (definitely not sunny) Melbourne, and horribly jet-lagged.

I'm also still trying to process some news my stepmum gave me via a phone call 2 days ago, when I was walking through Geneva's Jardins Botanique. My dad has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I'll be calling him tomorrow to talk about it, when I'm not so jet-lagged. He's 75, but from a line of long-lived people, and in very good health up to now, so this is very unwelcome news.
