What do you think I could have done better?

Nothing! Respect!

Looked to me as though you were flying along and she didn't realise how fast you were going (bike = slow). I don't see that you did anything wrong, nor why you imply you did.

Difficult to tell, but perhaps you'd have had room to go round behind her had she carried on.

Incidentally, were you up around 25 - 30 then, or does it just look like it?

I agree, thats quite come speed.. I wonder if they were going to do the "I'll move halfway out and just let this cyclist by" in the same way that they drive right behind you when your walking over a ped crossing.

Still, if you had slowed theres no garantee that the vehicle behind her would have seen you if they'd decided to turn also...

Maybe hi-vis would have helped....:smile: Actually it might have....

I just thought that but didn't want to say anything.

But the lowdown position Mikey rides would it have 0.1 % affect?

Somewhere between 30-35mph there, that's slower than I would normally be there, due to the wind and the wet roads. Completely normal speed for a recumbent though. Best conditions I'm doing 45 there (it's a 40 road).

Interestingly I get far fewer of these types of incidents on the recumbent, and loads on the fixed upright. I didn't have my lights on, and perhaps I should have. I did brake, but only as hard as I dared, and it wasn't nearly enough.

I'd guessed 30, because you seemed to be about the same as the car in front and I'd assumed it was a 30 limit.

Don't you have any qualms about doing in excess of the speed limit?

Benty - reckon you were riding in a hedonistic manner !

AND - you were too far to the left ~ when riding at that speed move over more to the right.

Other than that: you go BOY !!!!!!!!

He was probably only doing 30 as he'd just pulled out from parking.

Not really - it's the same speed as most cars do here, and the speed limit doesn't apply to bicycles anyway. I'd agree there is some moral aspect to roughly sticking to the speed limit on a bike, but 5mph isn't really far from the spirit of the idea. Besides, I would only be doing 45 perfect conditions, and was doing 10-15 mph less here in the wet and greasy conditions. In hindsight, I'd have liked to go even slower than that. Is that reasonable?
