I quite fancy an Airzound, just to give me a right of reply to other vehicles, like the Cock the other night in the BMW Z3M who accelerated flat out through a 30, sliding sideways past me.

What are your experiences ?

Yes, if used sensibly they very much add to your overall safety.

Love mine! It's a massive safety plus, especially when you get some muppet reversing towards you and threatening to run you over, and ignoring your shouts. AirZound will stop them in their tracks most of the time.

I've seen one powered by a pop bottle. Not sure that the user had worked out the stresses involved, but it was working very well.

Great idea & a good piece of kit. Get it and use it sensibly!

I got bored of my Airzound never having any air in when I wanted to use it - despite charging it regularly, and even buying a new one which very quickly went the same way. So I went for a Stebel Nautilus electric air horn (£22 from Motor World) - 139dB, little compressor built in. It operates off a 12V supply, but can draw 18A, so needs a decent battery. Installed a suitable 12V lead acid battery just behind my pannier rack, suspended the horn unit from the top tube, and installed a push button on the handlebars. End result = bloody excellent, and louder than an Airzound - though would point out I use it very sparingly, but when I do it has the desired effect!!

Sounds great but how much extra weight does it add ?

Yeah always wanted one of those 12v airhorn thingy's...anyway my 6v car horns confuse motorists anyway. They draw about an amp for a short burst.

When I used one of them to wake a motorist up who was writing in a notebook while he was driving he almost crashed the bugger.:blush:Christ if that had been an airzound.

It doesn't if you don't use it....

Possibly it would unless it's totally airtight.

Ah, erm, yes.... Its not what you'd call a light weight solution! Haven't got the exact weights but guess the battery is a good kilogram, and the horn about 1.5kg maybe. But I only cycle just under 3 miles to work, and I often cart stuff home in my panniers anyway, so figure it doesn't really make a massive difference. I reckon its worth it for the decibels that get unleashed when you hit the button....!!!
