Surprisingly my early 1970s Alan Italian frame has a Campagnolo 1 370 24TPI English thread bottom bracket. No wonder I could not shift the fixed cup - thinking it was an Italian right hand thread !

My ALAN is '81 (aluminium, glued and screwed) and 'yup', the Campagnolo BB is 'normal' hand thread (and well-serviced).

I suspect Alan put English threads on frames specifically made for export to the UK, while of course those for their home market were Italian thread. The headset on mine is also 1" English thread - suppose it would be to match the BB ^_^. Unfortunately this early Alan suffered a bent top and and down tube when my father piled it into the back of a Volvo while commuting to work in the early 1980s. He continued to ride it for years (unwisely) but now I've inherited it I've stripped it for parts to equip his old Holdsworth Mistral that I'm restoring.......and the Alan will become a piece of very elegant wall art
