Its scary in sunny Bolton, if its not red light jumping which seems to be the norm in this town then its young clowns in high powered Mercs/Audi's/VW's driving as if its their right to do so with no fear of the law or what they can do to others. The red light jumper was just one we came across....the two little boys racing their daddies Merc CLS and BWM X-5 was just another on our journey to my daughters riding lesson. Standards have dropped dramatically and I see it getting worse.
In the 30 years of driving, it has become more and more a chore which is a shame because along with cycling, I do enjoy my old cars. I will just keep my cycling, spider senses switched on all the time whilst driving which seems to keep me safe !
I agree there is a marked fall in standards...but certainly in Peterborough, it's nowhere near bad enough to warrant one in my opinion. I accept that may not be the case I other cities.

Yes. But why record your journeys? Is it just to provide evidence to insurers when you have a prang? Surely the chances of that happening outweigh the inconvenience of charging camera, remembering to switch it on etc. Just wondering why people have them.
You don't have to switch it on, it comes on automatically with the ignition and takes about 15 minutes to fit with the wire concealed under the headlining and inside the trim by the door frame. If you've ever had a no fault bump and waited 18 months while the other parties insurers argued till they were blue in the face that it was 50/50 you'll understand the value. It happened to me the other year when I was hit while stationary after giving way on a narrow lane. Even though the other guy put his hands up and my damage was only £100 his insurers tried to claim I must have been moving and wanted my lot to go halves on his two and a half grands worth of repairs (He glanced off my wing and went down a ditch).

That isn't the first time I've had a no fault accident drag on for ages while the insurers got awkward. With video evidence each claim would have settled on the spot.

Did you sort out the radio interference problem ?[/QUOTE]

Yes, I ditched the supplied charger and bought a USB converter for the ciggy socket and a compatible lead. Cost me about six quid and the problem went.

BTW, what exposure setting do you find works best? The default is a little dark.

If they are such a great idea and protect both drivers and insurers from spurious claims, then why aren't insurers giving them to their customers for free?

Most (If not all) haulage firms now have to have cameras fitted to their vehicles to get insurance at all. Some motor insurers are offering discounts if you have one and it is only a matter of time before it becomes the norm.

This is why they are popular in Russia
Although I don't have one I can understand their worth sometimes, I was reversing a few years ago & somebody deliberately drove around the back of the van, I never actually touch his car only his out-turned wheel. He claimed £5k off my insurers, he'd had the same accident 2 days earlier according to his medical records, yet my insurance company still paid out.

Blimey, you make it feel like a miracle I've lived this long. I've been driving 30 years or so. I don't recall a single instance of downright reckless driving. Stupid driving, yes, but nothing that I would consider to be endangering to my life as another motorist

Dashcams are very popular in Russia apparently due to the prevalence of people jumping in front of cars and feigning injury for compensation. Remember the meteor that was filmed in Russia? That was on dashcams

Why not when you could catch stuff like this...

An avalanche of TMNs to me I think

That's my insurers problem, not mine.
Sadly their insurers and your insurers just agree on a figure without actually checking what happened. And that in turn makes every bodies insurance more expensive.

It also doesn't help when woodentops don't bother to record correct info at scene. Or ask questions to themselves about why one party was in that position , but just follow PRIMROSE. .

Dumbing down of the worst order.

That's the problem. It is often cheaper for the insurers to agree a 50/50 on a disputed claim rather than drag it out for months while they argue.

Great for them, but it fecks up the innocent parties premiums.

Normally you spout complete and utter bollocks but on this occasion I agree with you.
