Aldi special buys

For the money the stuff looks to be great - the jerseys loom a decent quality for the commuter and the socks, which I have, are good.

Stupidly bought a cheapo jersey from Sports Direct and the material is awful. Decided to get an Altura one for about 35 quid and the price difference is more than vindicated.

Tried to use the track pump for the first time yesterday. It blew apart at the pipe joints. Surprised and disappointed as I am a big fan of Aldi for most purposes. Took it back, but couldn't find the receipt in the confetti in the bottom of my shopping bag.
Halfords have the Joe Blow for £37. Is that the way forward?

Much as I expected tbh. The cheap pumps simply aren't designed for high pressure. I was going to buy a couple for friends/family, glad I didn't bother tbh.

I personally use a Joe Blow Sport and it's one of the best purchases to date. The £15-£20 own brand models like Planet-X Phaart should be of similar quality. Wiggle are currently selling the Joe Blow for £31.18.

I've tried a couple of track pumps from Aldi and Lidl and have come to the conclusion that digging a bit deeper for a Joe Blow is always cheaper in the long run.

Well, I have always been happy with my Turbo Morph but a year or so ago when Sainburys were selling their older Track Pump off at £2.50 I bought two. The Presta adapter is a bit fiddly but it certainly blows.

At the other end of quality I noticed Asda had a Rolson bike pump for sale that said on the label 'maximum 30 PSI'.

You have to laugh. But no wonder the title has removed the word 'bike' even though it comes with a frame mount.

I bought two of the jerseys and some gloves along with a work stand.

The gloves look cheap and are cheap but are supremely comfortable. I'm mightily impressed with them. I did a 100k a couple of weekends ago in them and one of the jerseys and I have nothing but praise for the money spent.

I invested in a Jersey and a Maintenance stand. Both are good quality items at an amazing price.

I've been using their track pump for about 10 months and it's been great. That said, my tyres are at 80psi so I can't comment on its abilities at high pressure.

Quality control, possibly, rather than an outright incapability. Our office track pump is an Aldi one from a previous bike "event", and has given good service (I think the highest any of us need is 90psi) for over three years.

I'd not trade it for my Rennkompressor, but it's a sight better than the Lidl one I had that exploded in such a way that the handle portion flew upwards at surprising velocity (although other people had good results with those).
