My brother came round to my mum's today and said "Something weird is in my garden. I looked out the window a couple of days ago and thought someone had puked on my lawn. I was gonna deal with it but got distracted and then remembered when I saw it again today, but then it had changed colour. I tapped it with my shoe and it turned into powder and flew everywhere. So I got some water to try and wash it away but the powder didn't damp down, it just went airborne again"

Various options were discussed, including the invasion of an alien species of fungus (on the assumption that the powder could be alien spores). Eventually my mum googled "fungus that looks like sick" (or some other description like this) and it turned out to be this...

It sounds like the opening part of the Day of the Triffids. Something alien appears. To begin with it just seem quirky but harmless but before long it has taken over the world. Never mind Al Qaeda, it's a pussy cat compared to the far more deadly Dog Vomit Fungus.

Did it smell ? I had something vaguely similar appear in my garden a few years ago. It was a very hot summer and i could smell it as i walked up the path to the front door even though it was in my back garden. I removed it with a spade and put it in the bin but a neighbour told me she thought it was grass snake eggs ?? As im not a lover of snakes, i know it wouldn't have hurt me, im glad i put it in the bin.
