Why do aliens in films always look ugly and speak in a funny voice? Also why are they always the baddies , why do we always win when in fact they would be of a far superior intelligence if they could travel through the universe?
Science fiction fans, over to you.

Because what makes a good film and what would likely happen are entirely unrelated. Watch Arrival for an excellent plausible encounter.

They don't. (The Abyss)

They aren't. (Star Wars)

We don't. (The Day The Earth Stood Still)

It varies. Space travel is not dependant on a aliens having developed technology themselves or at all. (Space borne virus, hitch hikers, ancient technology from previous species)

Basically, youve got a very thin experience of sci fi. If you like thinking, then read or watch Asimov, Ben Bova, Clarke or Stephen Baxter.

Brilliant film.

Aliens are good guys in ET, and...erm...well, in ET.

Nicked the whole story and concept off Man Facing Southeast.
