Off to the French Alps for a two week tour. Don't think we've forgotten anything essential, got bikes, tent & a corkscrew so I'm sure we'll get by.
Planning on a loop from Nice to Bourg d'Oisans and back but will play it by ear as it's the first time we've done any fully loaded touring in the mountains and aren't sure want sort of milage we'll manage.

Back safe & sound.

Great trip, although a bit on the warm side for going over mountains (36-38 deg c most days). Headed north from Nice and went over the col de la Bonette (highest in europe at 2802m, the only other people we saw on loaded tourers were a couple of young English blokes coming up the other side). Then headed west into Provence via lake Serre-Poncon and quite a few minor cols and did the Ventoux unloaded, which was actually pretty easy. Then back to Nice, ended up 472 miles over 13 days.
Sweated enough to fill a swimming pool but made a reasonable dent in Provence's rose production and ate very well indeed.
