All Tarmac C2C Route

Hi all,

I'm after a suggestion (and ideally a link to a downloadable GPX file) for an all tarmac C2C route.

I've had my arm twisted to plan one for myself and a few buddies to do this summer. We plan to do it in one, very long day. I have a choice of a couple of bikes (Genesis Flyer single speed, Equilibrium geared and a CX bike) but my buddies are roadies only and simply don't have the hardware to tackle any type of gravel or forest trail. They can cope with tarmac cycle paths, but just the mention of "off-road" sends them into cold sweats...

So, a tarmac only route, is there one? A few extra miles is not an issue just so long as we stay on the black stuff. Suggestions please...

I used the C-2-C website and a road bike on my route. The only bit they'll have issues with is Wythop Bank. That has an alternative 'road' section signposted anyway.

Having bought a C2C route map I think I used it once on the entire C2C. No GPS or anything else. It's signposted fine.

What are the issues with Wythop Bank? I am supposed to be going that way in a couple of weeks.

This is the one we did - there is a section of old railway track but it was perfectly okay on my Secteur with 25 tyres.

Hope it helps

Just stick to the road on the descent from Whinlatter. We went via Castlerigg Stone Circle outside Keswick,. In any case I think that the old railway track may still be closed after the floods. I chose to ride the road that runs parallel to the Waskerley Way. However, my son stuck to the Waskerley Way and said it was OK. Just take a big hanky to mop up the tears after you have climbed Crawley Bank (just before Waskerley Way). Once you get to the Waskerley Way it's almost all downhill, or level.

If you are finishing in Tynemouth you can't take your bike on the metro back into the city centre. Only a problem if you need to get back to the start by rail.
