You tell me, unless you fall within the 0.000001% who are considerate and safe drivers ;).

Presumably that figure is based on a rigorous statistical analysis of the van driving population and not just your emotional response to meeting three or four folk who were peanuts.

Quaint your use of folk ;).

Over a distance of about 12.5 miles.

Apart from nearly being a goner on 2 occasions, the first almost in the same league as magger's recent short staining scare, today's ride was beautiful - bright, sunny, a few puffy white clouds in the sky and a strong freezing northerly wind. All that was needed was young lambs frolicking in the fields. In the sunshine and out of the wind it was positively balmy.

Is this them? Might be worth an email, even if you don't know the reg.

Anyway. Maybe I should have been a bit clearer; this is the bit I was on about:

Anyway I shouted "Be careful you $^£"%£*$^ !" at him as I rode by him choosing not to show any sign of weakness. The transit van had "SawtryCabinets" sign written all over it. Unfortunately cannot remember the reg. If you are doing any business with this guy, just to let you know, he is an ar$ehole.

Cars following were staying well back. Guy jumps back in his van pulls out in front of cars and speeds toward me so I sit right up, turn right around swan neck stylee to eyeball this f*cker.

While I can understand your reaction - you'd have to have been a saint not to have said something - you took a huge risk swearing at someone who'd already shown they were willing to sideswipe you just because you were on the road, and then putting yourself in front of his vehicle.

Well, I don't drive up a narrow country road at about 60 and pass a cyclist about 6" away, while something is passing the other way.

As happened to me yesterday morning (rusty white corsa-based van)

So I do get the generalisation but then there's that WVM who waited patiently behind tonight only for me to have a purple people carrier look straight at me and decide "safe to go because it's a bike that's coming"

It got an "OI!" from me as I passed it and pulled into primary to aproach the roundabout to prevent any further silliness, and a blast in sympathy from WVM as he arrived behind.

I think the MPV got the message from both sides!

Email the company and explain the incident. Tell them you have it on video and are considering going to the police. May not achieve much and your bluff is easily called but you never know.

What if it is a sole trader as likely the case may be - a kitchen fitter who wants to sort things out with me face to face with some of his brothers or mates. I don't think so ........... Plus I don't really want to furnish him with any of my contact details.

If so, where, as I have never seen any? IME 99.999999% are as I describe.

Crankarm, you understandably over-react, and display the same intolerance and prejudice that motorists sometimes display towards cyclists. Riding in London, my experiences of WVM has been almost universally good. They pass wide, and do not hassle me. Maybe they spot that I am numbered amongst them?

It must be something to do with the huge sticker on the back of the bike....?

Millwall FC. Nobody loves us...we don't care! NOT!

Just a gentle rebuke from a WVM on a bike. Peace, dude.

Cool ............

Just as long as you know Millwall used to have the unenviable title of football club with the worst supporters for hooliganism and trouble at any game .

I know. I'm getting the sticker for the van. Fellow motorists will shrink away in horror at the prospect of sharing any kind of close proximity of road with a homicidal maniac. I shall then shepherd my cycling brothers and sisters about town like a Mother Goose, ( a white one, actually).

Peace.

I hold up my hand too - I've driven white vans hundreds of miles, admittedly not as part of my job. And - as a cyclist - I would say that in my long experience cycling, really bad encounters with WV's are incredibly rare. Close overtakes - yes, commonplace, but everybody gets those. But incidents bordering on road rage: no: they can be counted on one's fingers at most.

Would some here say, I've just been lucky?
