Nearly witnessed a horrific accident in Oxford this afternoon. A duck started crossing the road to the river, totally oblivious of the traffic. I thought NOOO! and shouted out to watch the duck. Luckily the driver had seen it and stopped, but that came reasonably close to causing an accident, as the driver behind him had to brake smartish too. I suppose that's why you should always leave enough space to come to a halt at the speed you're travelling.

Survival of the fittest. (or at least most road aware)

i thought you meant you hit it on your bike, that would have been a mess!

I saw a pigeon meandering through slow moving traffic a couple of years ago, until it burst under the wheels of a lorry.
Horrible, like a giant bag of crisps exploding. Only with feathers.

Saw a goose cross the road the other day - on a green man phase, at a pedestrian crossing!

His mate crossed behind him, though, after the lights had changed, but the drivers just sat and waited.

Ducks seem to respond quite well to a bell, but not to an airzound for some reason.

Perhaps they just think it's a goose. "****ing goose, just ignore him".

actually it shows why drivers should not stop/swerve for small animals in the road if there is other traffic around

Should have bagged it and had it for tea with plumb and orange sauce served alongside a variety of country vegetables and creamy mashed potato. I have nearly bagged myself a couple of pheasants already going 'over't 'trough' - docile gormless looking beasts - now they are nice with cranberry and port sauce, some roasties and stir-fried country veg.
