Never cycle up the inside of a vehicle, its blind spot city!
Good Lord, really? I'd triple my commute time if I never filtered on the inside

My first day ever cycling in London I was nearly run over with somebody turning left across me - a white van coming from the wrong lane (I was in the left turn + straight on lane, they were in the straight on only lane). Their back tyre left a graze on my ankle!

Point being, people are terrible drivers, never trust them at junctions. I learnt that painfully and with much terror on day 1 and have never forgotten it at a junction since.. ever!!

I filter up the inside all the bloody time, usually in a cycle lane, I'll switch to the outside if the inside gets blocked, yes doors might open, especially near stations but normally straight after a vehicle has stopped oddly, vehicles don't move sideways

What I would never do is out myself on the left of a vehicle at a junction

I did run into the back of a van a few weeks ago, fortunately I was on a Boris bike, white van cut across in front of me without signalling, I misjudged the space i had to pass him on the right due him then stopping and hit firmly into the centre of the back, the Boris bike was fine but there was a loud bang, someone shouted out to ask if i was alright, i got ready for a row with the van driver but natch he drove off

what might be sensible outside London plain doesn't work in London init

It's unlikely the driver saw you as most vans have no rear windows and mirrors only work if you use them, and they still have blind spots. As said, primary position or filter with great care. Don't undertake at junctions when traffic is moving
