Well not really, joined a road and noticed a guy on MTB behind me, he got smaller and smaller.
Stopped for a while at some traffic lights where MTB guy catches me up then decides he needs to be in front of me:headshake: .
Lights change and we set off, within a few pedal revolutions passed the MTB guy who is giving it lots of effort, lots of rocking and rolling plus classic looking down at his bike to find out why it's not going very fast as I disappear into the distance at a rapid rate of knots(relatively speaking):bicycle: .
He must have been sweating buckets as he was wearing a zipped up waterproof jacket and it was 26 degrees in the shade:heat: .

A valiant if misguided effort though

Why do they do that?

Overtake at the lights when they are obviously slower, don't get me wrong I couldn't give a monkies if they disappear into the distance but if they dont then you end up having to overtake them yet again.

I guess car drivers might say the same thing.

However it's much easier for a motorist to overtake a cyclist than a cyclist overtaking another cyclist. The motorist is in the stream of traffic to start with, a cyclist needs to find their space in the stream of traffic then accelerate hard to move into that space.

I know, was being naughty and playing devil's advocate.

I didn't mean that in a bad way.

When I was suffering my fitness problems a few years ago I never used to overtake a cyclist who actually looked faster than me (which was most) at lights or generally on the road as I saw it pointless (and I still don't as I don't really want the hassle)...Also at lights I don't generally filter to the front as much as I did but look for the slowest (accelerating) vehicle sometimes (to stick behind)...(like a bus)...

When playing devil's advocate then expect to require some nomex

In all honesty I've found the best solution to the barge infront at the lights thing is to take primary 2 or 3 cars back. This only works if you're genuinely quick but is a very effective way to get up into the mid-30mph range quickly

In common parlance, a devil's advocate is someone who, given a certain argument, takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with, for the sake of argument. In taking such position, the individual taking on the devil's advocate role seeks to engage others in an argumentative discussion process. The purpose of such process is typically to test the quality of the original argument and identify weaknesses in its structure, and to use such information to either improve or abandon the original, opposing position. It can also refer to someone who takes a stance that is seen as unpopular or unconventional, but is actually another way of arguing a much more conventional stance.
