Do you remember the old 'Jet x 50 engine'?

Yes and I remember the holes that I burned in the hallway lino with them.

Then there was the occasion when I made a Jetex powered Duplo car, set it up in the long science corridor, opened the fire exit at the end to allow egress into long grass, place the pupils behind me and the car before I lit the fuse then watched in horror as the car did a U-turn 10m away from us, take off and fly at high speed and knee hight towards us. The kids managed to find traction as the climbed the corridor walls and would have done the rock climbing community proud.

Their response once the smoke had cleared:

"Do it again sir!"

It's been 40 years since i saw one fly, if i recall right it was a Dutch flying team, Wings and wheels down Essex way.

Must be tempting to let go.

Too much kinetic and chemical energy to even contemplate letting go.

In the UK pulse jet control line aircraft are flown inside circular netted enclosures. The handle has a safety strap attached to the wrist. The lines and attachment points to the handle and aircraft are pull tested at a tension much greater than they are subjected to under flight conditions.

I just read this thread straight after the Nicki Minaj fart thread and the shaving with a blowtorch thread, so all I can say is: :giggle:

I get paid to run 120kV discharge tests on transformers. So much fun on high humidity days when you get frequent air path breakdown between the connection nodes. Who doesn't like indoor lightning?
That's fun. I had to go to Budapest to do that a couple of years back, failing HV transformers is quite interesting:smile:
